Learning to Wave - A Collaborative Tutorial

It's not too late to learn to Wave. If you've always wondered how to use Wave, check out this fun tutorial where a bunch of Wave Power Users are introducing the awesomeness of Wave to a new user.

How To Add Any Email Address to Your Wave

You can now invite any email address to a wave.

To invite someone who doesn't have a Wave account to your wave, just click on the + sign in the participants bar and enter their email address.

That's it! They will get an email inviting them to join your wave and you will see a dummy profile your wave. This profile will be replaced with the user's profile once they log in and view your wave.

Note: This will only work when you add contacts through the + sign in the participants bar in the wave. The Contacts panel (which is usually on the bottom left corner of your Wave window) will only accept @googlewave.com alias or accounts that already have Google Wave.

Alternative to Ning

A few of my friends asked me to suggest an alternative to Ning since their free service will no longer be available in a few weeks. I could think of only one alternative - Google Wave! Here's why:

Google Wave allows you to embed rich media into your conversations - no more text only mode. Add photos, videos, and even websites to a wave and continue the conversation without any interruptions. Here's an example of an online art class assignment on Wave.
Use extensions to enhance the discussions - add a poll, rate articles, annotate images, assign tasks to each other, keep track of to-do lists, use maps to plan offline meetings, hold audio-video conferences and more! If you have a Google Wave account, check 'Extensions' in the Navigation Menu to see what's available.
Keep your waves private or public - use Google Groups if you want to limit the conversation within the group or make the wave public and invite anyone interested in the topic to post a comment. You can also create read-only waves if you want your members to view the content but not edit it.
Embed waves in your blogs/websites and enable users to participate in your wave right from your own website. Here's an example of an embedded wave.

And the votes are in....we are going to have our first online art class on Google Wave and the topic is LANDSCAPES!

This is a four-week course for the members of the ArtisticWaves group (anyone can join).

Class starts on Jan 29, 2010 and to view the contents of the course, go to the Landscapes on Wave link after you join the ArtisticWaves Group.
